I did the trick mentioned on the forum to reset the "Learning" transmission and the shifting during acceleration seems much better. Looks like all those people pounding the hell out of the car during test drives made the transmission learn bad habbits.
What's the trick??

It should still be on the first page of posts, as well. Good stuff.

I'll try out the CD to see if I have the problem and then request an update. Also, I was wondering if there is an official list of voice commands that the Nav will accept. I use the "options" voice command to see the options, but they are pretty limited. I have also heard about an "extended voice-activated system" that can be added to the car. Will this add more voice commands? Or does my car probably already have this?
Check out this section of E60.net --> http://www.e60.net/information/

LOADS of great information and BMW documents, including a list of the accepted voice commands.

And well worth the money IMNSHO.
OK, so I'm post-happy tonight. Sue me.

Anyway, I'll add one more thing about the iPod adapter. It's the only way to go in my opinion, but it's not perfect. Search around the forum a bit and you'll quickly find that the interface has some idiosyncrasies. Don't expect it to feel like a direct extension of the way your iPod works. Still, with some properly-set up playlists you'll be jammin' in no time.

BTW, the sound quality from the direct connection is outstanding, especially with your Logic7.

Apparently holding down the gas pedal for 25 seconds in ACC mode (engine off) resets the learning transmission.

I plan to take my car in to try and get the the Progman update. Also, the trim on my drivers door appears to be comming off

I was wondering how you can tell if I have the new door seals, the TSB said cars produced up to Jan 2005 had the old ones and those produced after Jan 2005 have the new ones, but my car was produced in Jan 2005 so how do I tell? I havn't noticed any noise yet, but if I have the defective seals I'll definately want to get that done before my warentee expires.

Thanks!! I am stunned that this works and BMW does feel owners should know about it. I have definitely been experiencing hesitation when mashing the throttle so I look forward to fixing this problem when I leave work today. Thanks again...this board is awesome!!

I have the new seals and recently had my car washed and waxed. Despite my warnings the detailer was not careful and got wax on the seals and the noise came right back. Cleaned off with some detergent and the noise is gone. Point is, doesn't really matter new or old seals, just don't get wax on the rubber seal or the body where the rubber makes contact when the door is closed. This is the source of the noise...

So THAT'S it. I had the new seals and the lame teflon tape installed and my rear doors are still squeaking like crazy. I'll go back an clay the Zaino off those portions of the car and see how it goes.

Question: Which part of the seal is the culprit, exactly? Is it the part that sort of overlaps and is clearly visible from the outside when the door is closed (just above the chrome trim on cars equipped with chrome trim)? Or is source of the squeaking coming from the part of the seal that you can only see when the door is open?

Sorry for the thread-jack. I just have to get this door noise under control.

It's the seal you can only see when the door is open. Make sure that rubber seal is clean and wax free and also make sure the painted body part where that rubber makes contact is clean and wax free. In my experience, that has been the source of the noise.
