I posted a photo awhile back of my new 530I. I bought it with 8002 miles on it and some damage to the left side. I have been lurking and reading the board ... now the shop has started working on the car.

Good luck with it. IMHO you would have been better off spending $36000 on a non-salvaged used BMW, but that's just me.

How much did you buy this wrecked 5er for? Plus time, $$$$$ and knowing you're driving a salvaged car... I don't know if it's really worth while unless you're into that sort of thing

Best of Luck with the repair!

Yeah, I am into it. All four of my kids have salvaged cars as well as my '97 993 Cab. I just sold a 2002 Audi S4 Avant that I bought and repaired when it had 5000 miles on it in 2002. It had 60000 miles on it when I sold it. The trick is to buy low milage ones with minimal damage and then keep them for several years. By the time you sell them the salvage title is of little concern.

I suppose if the car is pushing 50k, new, and it only has 8k miles, and you save 14k, it gets fixed well, you keep it for several years, and then sell it for 30 grand, it probably makes good sense. Driving an e60 for three or four years, at a cost of 2 grand a year. I like the sound of that. Especially since if mine weren't paid for, with little or nothing down, it would cost something like 10 grand a year, with depreciation stacked on top of that. The mathematics of the aforementioned, of course, are not totally exact, but probably semi-realistic.

But, man, Chuck. I'd be staring at that thing, sitting in the shop, thinking: "Will this really work?"
