Hey guys,

I have a 2008 520d m sport 47,000 and as i was driving down the motorway today i discovered there was a low humming noise from the car everytime i was doing 63 - 67 mph.

Is it a wheel bearing or worse?

Could be a wheel bearing, driveshaft carrier bearing, etc... Looks like you should be in warantee still, take it in for a diagnosis before it gets worse.
Good Luck.

I agree, it could be something minor or major, but as long as it's under warranty taking to the dealer is the prudent thing to do.

Are you sure it wasn't the DPF cleaning procedure going on?

Could also be your car is running it DPF regeneration cycle, if it is all the time then it is unlikely to be this.

DPF = Diesel Particle Filter

The filter cleans itself periodly and the cleaning process may last 5-10 minutes approximately. During the process the car can hesitate when accelerating and the exhaust makes a noisy humming sound.

Hello irl, welcome to 5 series.net.

A key word(s) in the Topic Title would help get a more rapid, better respone than merely "problem".

Having said that, I don't have foggiest what is humming on your E60. My ride is not a hummer but I do carry one around now and then.

Glad to have you on board.

Could be a multitude of issues. I'd ask the dealer while you have warranty coverage.

How old are your tires?? Could just be a drone from them...or an aftermarket exhaust...or bearings....or a million other things, if the car is under warranty, take it to the dealer and let THEM figure it out! Good luck and keep us posted!
