I bought a brand new sealed BMW 08/2 sat nav disc for my Pro Sat Nav recently, looks completely 100% genuine, however recently I have had a couple of Idrive warnings saying the drive/disc would not read, re-inserting the disc has cured it each time.
I can see no visible damage to the disc, looks brand new, as it should.
I have not yet tried my older 2005 disc which I previously had no problems with.
Just wondering what the chances are that the "drive" itself it knackered ??? BMW main stealer seemed to think it would cost ?1000 just for the drive to be replace which of course is just ludicrous, no doubt its just some standardised "matsushita industries" type drive, just wondered if anyone knows any more about this or has any thoughts ?
I will of course be trying out my 2005 disc at the first chance I can........

The DVD drive in our E90 died. Pretty sure it?s the same CCC as in the e60
It was not intermittent... one day it just wouldn?t read any media. BMW's cost to replace unit was around $2,000(at least that's what the invoice said).

Looking like it might well be a disc issue atm......I cant believe you cannot simply replace the drive yourself tho
