My Ride: BMW
Model Year: 2006
Be careful when checking for the center speaker on the dash. You may have what looks like speaker vents in the center, but there may not be a speaker under it. I guess BMW made a universal dash top that accomodates the center speaker or not. So the only way is if you have surround settings on the idrive or speakers in the rear doors.

My Ride: 545I and a half dozen other rides
I did not want to open this post as I was sure I had the base unit. After I bought my car and finally turned on the FM radio on the way home from the sellers house... I thought 'f@^k! base system?!!!!' 
Why would someone go out and get all these options on the car and not get L7?
I looked at all the speaker grills for' Logic 7,' 'Harman Kardon' or some thing to make me feel at ease that I was wrong.
Nope nothing
I see this post...
As I started reading down the thread I said to myself, I have have that.... I thought I saw that! Hey maybe!
Ran outside pulled the trunk lid, then the side panel...
Looked on top...
L7!
So I ran back into the house to get a cd go back out there...
You know a couple days ago I even bid on a L7 unit on ebay hoping I could retrofit it! Thank god I forgot about it and lost!

Pretty much what most peoople here said:
-Access your iDrive menu (press menu button and press straight down on the knob)
-Go to your audio settings and you should have an equilizer and option to choose surround sound method and it should say Logic 7 or L7 somewhere
Also, if you pump up the bass and you can feel the sub, then chances are you have it also.

I know this is an old topic, but I was trying to determine the same on my 535. It has the center speaker, however does not have any option in the menu for additional surround sound settings. Also, no speakers in the rear doors... i.e. not Logic 7.

I wish mine was the L7. 
Although I do have the little subs under my front seats, they aren't very powerful. I guess I'll be researching some upgrade options
