What is my 550i missing?
The Finnish car tax - + 100 %.

If a loaded car costs 100 in Germany it will cost around 200 overhear
But in the States around 70.

I hate it!

(The BMW factory actually sells some models a bit cheaper to poor us, so the difference
for ie a 525i is not more than + 50% compared to German prices).

To "ademitt":

The US and Canadian $ is about the same now, good for you Canadians.

But the Euro is worth 1,42 $.

In normal business life this should mean the a German built BMW would be very expensive in US?

Exactly my point Ricracing. Despite the change in the $CDN vs $US ratio over the past 2 years, our cars have not gone down in price and the US has not gone up. Unlike Porche, BMW Canada has said they will not change prices as a result of "short term monetary fluctuations". My bet is they are hedging the US dollar right now hoping it will rebound against the Euro.

....so the bottom line of this thread is: buying a bmw is best in america, low car prices, low gas prices, probably no road tax (here in AT road tax for a 550i is about EUR 1500/year), and probably low insurance rates too...

That pretty much sums it up in my view. Throw in the full 4 year maintenance offered in the states, and it is the best deal by far.
