If you don't want to get the premium sound package, have you considered getting the just the Logic 7 system alone without the 6-CD changer? This is now an option with all MY07 E60 cars, and you really won't miss the CD changer because of the pending iPod interface. I am going to leave it to the other members to tell you about the quality of the system.

This would be my suggestion as well. I think the standard sytstem sounds fine, but the L7 rocks, and has so much more range to what you can do with your system. While I didn't delete the CD changer on my 07, I wish I had. It's location makes it difficult to work with at best, and now that the aux jack is standard, I'd rather go the external device route. But, with or without the CD changer, you will love the system, and as pointed out above, there is really no clean way to do an after-market install.

Good luck on your choice and purchase....let us know which way you end up going

IMHO, the Logic 7 is one of the best OEM sound systems on the market..... DSP simulated surround sound, 13 speakers (incl. 2 subwoofers), 7-band equalizer and 6 CD-changer all neatly integrated into the iDrive system.

The L7 system in my MY05 530i sounds better than the Nakamichi system in my wife's Lexus and FAR better than the Mark Levinson systems in the new GS300 and LS430.

As others have indicated, going the after-market route is asking for TROUBLE!

If L7 is standard in the US there will be a lot of people in the US who will be unhappy that they paid $1200-$1600 extra for it.

$1200 to $1600? I WANT my $600 refund! I paied $1800 for it!

wait a minute... std? I want $1800 refund now!

I'd say only get L7 if you listen to lots of good source material - CDs.

Radio, sat radio, and mp3s won't sound THAT much better on L7.

Sorry folks i guess it must be me , i've heard many oem sound systems and yes thankfully BMW has gotten better than they were in the past, the L7 sounds great for OEM, i myself love the great sound system you can put together for the same amount of money you would spend on L7 okay maybe not the same amount but not that much more. CDT audio, Seas lotus, Morel elates, Focal Utopias, alpine Pxa h701. Tell me the OEM is better than a system with some of the best components in the industry and the best processor in the market.

I had the standard 6 CD changer Hifi system in my E39 and it sounded (spacially) just like the "concert Hall" setting in L7 in my E60. I would NOT invest in the L7, except it was in the car already.

I'm a short commute/news radio guy, so I don't know how good a transmission/replay things like MP3s have (dubious, I gather), but I can tell you, the CD (including the BMW demo CD) doesn't sound markedly better to me (and I dragged my old E39 Demo disc over to the new car). So, you may want to consider your "source" before dropping that extra $1700--or whatever it is now. I wouldn't.

Good luck,

thanks for the few of you that replied to my other topic........anyway....... planning on getting 07 530i .......automatic steptronic, sports and premium package..... what do you guys think of the premium sound package? is there a big difference in sound quality between the logic 7 sound system and the basic sound system that comes with the car? if i decided to pass on the premium sound package and go with an aftermarket sound system, will that void my 4 year/50k mile warrenty should any electrical problems occur? thanks for the help guys!!!
Two things are a must, the sports package and L7.

I was thinking of stock sound, until alot members on this board strongly advised against. They were right. Sat in two cars at the dealership, one with L7 and one without. Took about 5 seconds to realize L7 was much better. Stock sucks.

Given all the electrical gremlins reported in the E60, why hassle with an aftermarket system? L7 sounds great and has woofers under the front seats to improve acoustics for all passengers. I say forget it and surrender more of your $$$ to BMW.

Just my two cents.

The premium sound package is great ! The E60 is so noiseless that it is really worth the money !
You can have differnt sound parameters with FM or CD selection. And the front CD can read MP3 CD's : 180 songs on the same disk !
