Can anyone help me understand this one.

I am about to order a 2007 550i and to get the Logic 7 they force you to take a 6 CD changer. If you use an Ipod for your music library, a 6 CD changer is basically a boat anchor bolted in your glove box at a price of over $600.

When I was looking at purchasing a 2006 3 series, the Logic 7 was included at no cost with the 330i, but you spend another $15K or so on a 550i and you have to spend another $1,800 for the Logic 7? I believe BMW needs to call the upgraded radio in the 550i the "Illogic 1800".

Is the Logic 7 that much better than the base radio.

Helppppppppp.

By the way...this will be my 2nd V8 auto since I purchased a 1978 Camaro with a small block.

Cause its part of the Premium Sound Package.

Americans love packages so BMW NA bunches things up into packages. You can get them a la cart in the rest of the world. Sucks for some of us who don't need the CD changer.

Have you been able to see the new pricing on the 2007 yet? I'm also about to order a 2007 but have yet to find updated pricing.

No pricing yet but my dealer indicates it will be very close to the 2006. The Comfort seats will be part of the sport package as will the upgraded steering wheel that looks like the one on the M5. My dealer also thinks that the sport option won't change.

I wish they would toss the 6 CD changer. I will not even have a use for the CD slot in the dash.

I really want the gray interior, but im undecided on the exterior. Either the Monaco Blue or the Silver Gray.

Anyone know how the Gray interior would go with the Silver Gray exterior?

If only the Changer can be retrofit for a hard drive. I'd installed a hard drive in a heartbeat. Then screw Ipod, mp3, sirius, etc. All I need is a 300 gb hard drive and I can listen to programming for the next 15 years.

Has any aftermarket companies thought about this yet? I better go patent the idea. Someday it will make me rich.

PhatNoise from Kenwood is a hard drive MP3 system for the car.

If you are comparing 330i vs. 550i, 15 k$ is a bargin.

Chat around and you'll find an solution for your music sound demands!

Congrats on your member number and welcome!

I have been looking at posts on here for less than a week. I finally signed up today and I didn't notice the member number till you mentioned it.

Im ordering on Saturday and will fly to Munich for 2 days in May to save the $4,020 on the price just for starters.

I am real confused on the sound system. The regular system seems to have power. It has a couple fewer speakers, can it really be worth the $1,800 ?

Saying that Americans love packages [implicitly] more that other nationalities does not really get to the heart of the matter, IMO. I think that BMW just knows that if it offers Americans something very important (e.g., L7) that is obtainable only in a package (i.e., with the changer), then we will tend to buy the package to get the important thing and, consequently, that the company will make more money. I think that BMW is taking advantage of the knowledge that we will pay more to get what we want even if we have to buy some things we don't want. Perhaps European's are less willing to be taken advantage of in this fashion and, thus, BMW offers more abiltity to unpackage.

I think that offering a package, where a discount is implied, it a good idea and is good for customer relations. But, making important things available only in packages is not good for customer relations, IMO.
