Can someone tell me how or what I need to do to set up my car so that when my car is ready for service that my preferred BMW will contact me for an appointment?

I purchased my car in Atlanta, GA but I live in NJ and want my preferred BMW service dept to be be Difeo BMW.

Thanks in advanced.

You can set your preferred BMW center by logging into the BMW Owner's Circle but I don't know if that will have any affect on who the car contacts for service. I can think of two scenarios that would take place when the car determines the need for service:

1) The car places a call to a central BMW number and transmits the data including VIN, etc. The central "clearing house" would then forward the service request to whatever dealer is known as "preferred" by either the delivering dealership or what's in the owner's circle database.

2) The car is pre-programmed for the preferred dealer at delivery. In that case, your new dealer would have to make the change once they see the car for the first time.

In my mind, scenario two is likely what's taking place. Anyone else have better knowledge of what goes on?

Kzang, why not just call the service mgr. or service adviser at your local dealer? Tell them you would like them to be your preferred BMW service dealer. I would think they would know how to get your new car "connected." Good luck.

i got my car in dc but got the service call from my nearest dealer in ny.
bring my car to the ny dealer for a simple state inspection before the service call may have something to do with it, or maybe it was automatic?

When you take your car in for service they will automatically put their name into the system.

I'd be wary of Difeo. They seem to have mixed results. I am a fan of JMK, although it may be a drive.

Hmm I have heard good things about Difeo on Bimmerfest.com .

Anyway, According to BMW NA they connected me to thier customer service dept. to switch my preferred dealer. Once I did that a few days later I got a letter from BMW NA confirming my change for anyone that is interested.
