Is there a listing of the differences between the Pre and Post LCI 5er ? I have used the search feature but have not found any exhaustive listing. Thanks.

While we are at it the LCI came out in 2008 ? At least that was when the minor tweeking of the exterior and interior occured?

This document (from the UK) probably best illustrates the differences:

I got an LCI 520d but the gearshift is the 'older kind'. Everything else looks just like an LCI should other than that.

Weird eh?

I have a question about the manual shift knob on the LCIs. In all mag reviews or any print stuff, the knob is aluminum/leather. My car has the all leather knob. What's the story? Did they switch to the know to the aluminum/leather one for '09 or did the dealer do a presto-chango on mine?

No, this is not weird. All E60s got the new type of gearshift in May2007, except for the 520d, which got it in September 2007.
You probably have a mid-2007 LCI just like me.

Other changes are the 163hp vs 177hp engine, and the efficient dynamics package (the mid-2007 520d only had part of this, it lacks the electrical oil pump for example)

EU combined highway/city consumption is 5.9l/100km for the mid-2007 LCI and 5.1l/100km for the current LCI 520d, although it seems that real-life consumption is the same for both (~6.5l/100km combined).

You can easily recognise it by the exhaust pipe. If it has a chrome finish it's a >sept 2007 LCI.

You have a LCI look ('07 / 2) 520d with the older engine and auto gearbox and not the new whiplash headrests.

All these items was renewed with the EU MY '08 plus the 520d go the new Efficient Dynamics electronics.
