...in the UK people tend to opt for M Sport or AMG models or similar...
M Sport is a "look" with a suspension mod.

AFAIK AMG involves much more tuning to give an entirely different driving experience. I don't think you can AMG-up a Merc for ?2k in the same way you can specify M Sport for ?2k.

I think you're right about that, though I think people badge standard spec cars and put AMG wheels on.

Bargamon very nice write up.I'm happy for you that you are enjoying your BMW the way you like it with minimall options. On the other hand I guess you could call me some what of a gadget freek and try to get whatever BMW has to offer and I still can afford, I enjoy my BMW that way as long as its with in the 4 year 50,000 mile warrenty peroid. Good luck and enjoy.
cheers

Im come in from a different perspective, perhaps the silent majority.

I won't mod this car. I will keep the 17 wheels with the great Continental tires.
you are correct. That may not be the case for folks on this board. But I challenge anyone out there to count how many modified e60s you see on the street. I have yet to see any.

Glad you love it!

I havent seen any either, although, I live in the midwest, and the only "mod" cars I usually see are Honda's punked out by kids.

I'll keep my car very stock too, except for maybe a few subtle dinan things for suspension, etc. Invisible to the naked eye.

Spot on. It's for those reasons that I still miss my old E39 530i. It had more soul than the E60. But then maybe we only remember the good bits.

Good post. I agree (or at least understand) with most of what you are saying. But, I must disgaree with the statement:

"Sport suspension takes away feel of the car turning. To me its artificial and covers up technique. Like I said, I drive this car, not a computuer."

Why do you think the sport suspension takes away from the feel of thecar turning? I think it enhances feel and puts a premium on technique becasue the car is capable of handling better. Are you referring to Active Steering?

Nice right up. Just goes to show you that even a base model BMW has the "Gotcha" effect on the driver. You cant say that about many other cars. But I still prefer the sport suspension with active roll, and active steering. To me it just makes a great car, even better. But if I couldnt have these options for one reason or another, I would still get a BMW.

Not commenting on the cornering abilities of particular suspensions but just to remind ourselves:

M Sport suspension is different to Sport suspension.
