Both front seats on our 2006 530xiT have stopped responding.

In addition, neither of the front seat heaters will come on.

It's as if there is no power to either seat.

Anyone have any ideas on what this might be?

Thanks.

A fuse.

They are in the trunk over the battery.

Happy hunting,

SW can cause this as well. Let us know about the fuse investigation.

OK - Tried it this morning and now it is working fine.
So looks like you are correct that it is software related.

The other point of interest is that at least so far, it only seems to have been reported on the 2006 530xiT.

Hopefully, BMW will come up with a fix for this soon. It is a big problem -- and possibly even a significant safety issue - to not be able to adjust the seats properly (especially when your wife drives your car...).

FWIW: In my E39 540, the entire passenger seat would burn out fuses and all functions would stop, with no provocation. Dealer could never figure it out.

Once out of warranty, I once mentioned it to my local repair shop and his guy took 5 minutes to discover that the UP motor on the headrest had a dead short--blam, would kill whole seat. He checked and the UP motor was $138 or something silly. I alerted my sales guy when I traded it....lol

Looks to me like it must be a software bug.
Can't think of any other reason why both front seats wouldn't move and the seat heaters wouldn't come on (no lights on the console switch either) then the next day everything is fine.

Hopefully, BMW is monitoring this message board and can look into this. It is a pretty serious problem when it happens.

Looks like BMW has already fixed this. Found this in the description of items fixed in the CIP (thanks to cobradav):

The following software errors were corrected with the release of CIP 19.00 (Target data Status E060-05-09-510).

1. Power seat movement, seat heating and PDC (Park Distance Control) all fail simultaneously.

Guess I'll be going in to the dealer soon to get the upgrade -- to CIP 20.00.
