October 2010: 2010 535d MSport; Space Grey/Black Dakota, Adaptive Xenons, High Beam assistant, Prof. Nav, Voice Control,SAT, Adaptive Drive, Powered boot, Comfort Access, Climate Comfort W/Screen, Surround View, Side/Rear Sunblinds, Comfort Seats, HUD, Active Cruise, TV, Prof Loudspeaker, Night Vision, Lane Change warning, 4-Zone A/C, split rear seats, Speed Limit Display
This is some coincedence...just got my car back after a week off road...exactly the same problem
Symptoms were just like yours....accelerator felt completely dead, push down, nothing happened - could see that the accelerator was working because the mpg gauge was changing in line with the push on the pedal - then the gearbox changed down, revs went up , and whoooooo...so driving was a bit all or nothing.
Started off just happening now and then, slowly got worse, happening every day.
Dealer found a faulty valve - since it was mechanical ( not electronic or software ) no errors were reported.
Part had to come from Germany, hence off the road for a week ( got to drive a brand spanking new 730d )
Car now back to 100%
I'll call the dealer and find out exactly what they changed

My Ride: 2005 BMW 535d Mport, Carbon Black, Black Leather, stepped M167s, Visibility Pack, Media Pack, auto dimming mirror, full individually updated 200 W amp and speaker package including new door panels.
That would be very useful as I could point them directly to that.
It seems that it could be this pipe or valve. Does this pipe go straight to the turbo housing or is it somewhere else? Where was the valve located?

I've got a 530D touring and have started experiencing the same problem which is getting progressively worse so would also love to know the answer as I'm due to drop it in for a service soon and it would be great to give them some pointers!

My Ride: 535d Sport Carbon Black, Black Dakota leather, Media Package, Bluetooth, Bi-xenon headlamps, adaptive headlamps, auto dimming interior mirror, heated folding door mirrors, electric front seats with drivers memory, heated front seats, extended light package, sun protection glass, electrically adjustable steering column, automatic air conditioning.
Had the same problem on mine turned out to be a cracked manifold - replaced under warranty.

Managed to find out exactly what was changed...
It was the changeover valve - this apparently is responsible for selecting the low speed or high speed turbo; in my case it was sticking, so no low speed turbo.

\sorry...the problem on mine was related to the twin turbos...the 530d shouldn't suffer the same malfunction.
In answer to your PM...yes, I did run a couple of Cerberas, an early 4.2 then a 4.5.

Had BMW look at it, and I pointed out the suggestions made on here. They said the diagnostic printout told them that it had a sticky valve on the small turbo, which they changed.
Early days yet but I will let you know if it has totally cured the problem.
