- be gentle & more progressive with throttle : it's not a on/off switch ! Managing traction is a part of the driver job that you forgot with your Audi Quatro ...

- it's very normal that DSC (DTC in fact) works on damp or wet roads with soooooooo much torque !
Personaly, when I drive "hard", I switch DTC OFF (1 short push on the button)

- 19 inches & 275 tyres would be better for traction on dry, but certainly worse on wet & damp. It may be also more dangerous when under heavy rain, and you'll also have more tramlining !

- it's very clever to use winter tyres, but it would be better with 17 inches rims & tyres. Don't forget you bought winter tyres for efficienty & security, not for the look. Sheaper 17" rims would also keep your beautiful & expensive original rims from dirty winter conditions (specially salt)
And if you don't agree with that, you should have bought a 530xd or waited for a possible future 535xd ... even if I think that the 2 wheels drive E60 is more dynamic, lighter and gives more driving pleasure than a "X"
PS : do you have the sport chassis ???
Hi Oliver

Thanks for your suggestions - I appreciate all your comments.

Here in the UK we don't get the 530X versions - dealers say that BMW don't want to take volume from the X5 - I think this is not true and the real problem is the old RHD issue again. If a 535d had been available it would have been mine, no question. After two Quattros you get used to being able to use all the power whatever the conditions (well, nearly).

Also we have the problem of crap road maintenance in the UK (more like a third world country in many areas) - just when you think you have a great line...you hit a bump or pothole!

The winter tyre situation is another story. This winter they were like rocking horse s*** - no choice (or wait until end January).

Yes, I have the M Sport version (I haven't got around to setting up my details in control panel yet). This is fantastic on smooth roads (even my wife says she likes the ride). However, it is very easily distrurbed on less than perfect surfaces. I don't mind the harshness but it is so easily knocked off line on our wonderful Blairite roads.

Read your Burgundy post - sounds like you had real fun. The French do traffic so well .

Bye

How to reset throttle DBW in a E60 with Comfort Access? Thanks!
Quick answer: I don't know for sure.

I believe there is an equivalent of "key position I" (i.e. some electrical equipment connected and working, but engine not running) with the CA. Perhaps it's simply inserting the fob in the slot. Take a look at your manual, and see if it mentions anything about the equivalent for key positions I/II/III.

On my e60 (non-CA) I have fob key plus start/stop button so none the wiser either.

i went from a 545 to a 650 [18 to 19] you wont find going to the larger tire will help. at one time there were studless radial tire in europe that i imported to the states. they were hydrophonilic tire. the traction was great. try some different tire compounds. i had a set of pzeros on a 330cic and found the steering to be slow. you turn and then wait for the car to turn, this may be causing your tires to break loose.

Load up the trunk with bricks, that should sort out your traction problem..

Understand the compound question and will be back for advice before buying next set of summers but do BMW do OEM bricks?

I thought that's what the X3 / X5 were, but I doubt you'd fit them in a boot...

FIAT has a solution.

I suggest that you don't "refuse their offer" otherwise horses heads and sleeping with fish may begin to figure.

Who needs bricks?
