Hi,

I'm considering purchasing a 535d M Sport, but before I take the final plunge, I'd like to hear the thoughts of some current owners.

Up till three years ago, I was a hot hatch man (latterly a chipped-up Audi S3) then I went crazy and entered SUV land. Two VW Touaregs later and I'm feeling the itch for a change.

On paper (and through a very limited test drive), the 535d seems to offer a good compromise between my desire for power/speed and the need to shift the new family around in comfort.

I'm interested to hear views from 5-series owners who left behind their hot hatches and SUVs to go the saloon route. Would you recommend it? Any regrets?

Finally, have found an ex-demo 535d at the right price - but the only thing it seems to lack is Xenons / Visibility Package. Deal breaker? (it looks like I can get a conversion kit on www.bmwmstyle.co.uk?)

Thanks in advance for your replies. Im 90% sold on the idea, but just nervous about making the wrong decision...!

The 535d is a fabulous car. Even better as a touring IMHO

Re Xenon's - if you live in a city, forget it as always on dip beam. If travelling at 535d speeds in the country they are near essential - as is Professional Nav, not for routing but used in perspective mode to show where the road goes next

Its very hard to go wrong with a 535d sport. Its a very unique engine indeed - even more so when u chip it to 350HP !!

It beats a hatch for sure cause the excessive torque makes the car feel very nimble. But i wouldnt compare it to a Toureg. You can throw a toureg around and over speed bumps etc with no worries. With a saloon car u need to drive a bit more carefully.

I would get a X5 but i would prefer something inbetween. So i am waiting for the X6. for now the 535d has no equal.

Hi,
Welcome to the best online forum for the E60/61.

You can't go wrong on the 535d. I have an E60 and use it ferry my three daughters, 6, 3, and 1. That's THREE car seats in the back, plenty of room and loads of boot space. I was looking to sell mine a few weeks ago, but have realised it's just an awesome machine.

Maybe an E61 is an option for yourself - I'm a big fan of the 172 19" wheels, so they'll be an extra as well as the the RFT's - apparently due to the weight limitations.

Xenons - I can't live without them, it adds that extra dimension. I've seen them on other cars driving by and they really look the business. Once you've had them, having the standard lights is like driving by candlelight! (IMHO).

BTW - There is going to be a slight engine upgrade (I think it's 272 up to 286 bhp).

regards
