So I'm driving home from Guards yesterday cruising down the PA Turnpike from Philadelphia back to Harrisburg. I passed a Lexus something or other soon after getting onto the turnpike, and from that point on he trailed me for about 60 miles, staying back about a 1/4 mile or so. At times I approached speeds that were well over the posted 65MPH limit, but like to think I know the road pretty well, especially the cops favorite 'hiding' spots.

I was getting sick of this guy trailing me, so I stepped up my game a little and put the accelerator down. At times I was pushing 120 mph +. The Escort Passport detector was scanning as it does and all was well.

I knew a pretty long slow curve was coming up, and remembered that it was bordered on both sides by tight guardrail - no place for a cop to hide in that situation so I eased off a bit, I'd say to around 115 or so, and went into the turn.

PHUCK! That SOB cop was hiding just around the corner, sitting perpendicular to the road, and no one was in front of me for at least a mile so I didn't pick up his radar until it was aimed DIRECTLY at me. I could see his eyes. I smashed the brakes and was pulled over before he even really pulled out.

As I always do to make it more comfortable for them, I put down my windows immeadiately and started to get my license and registration ready. He walked up. He said you know why I pulled you over right? Of course I said. It was a long weekend drill and I just wanted to get home. He really seemed to be getting down and into close proximity to my face, I think smelling for alcohol or something - which I had not consumed at all yesterday (until I got home). He noticed that I had a state credit card in my wallet and asked about that and about where I was coming from and headed to. Then he walked back to his car.

At this point I'm thinking oh shit - I had to be doing around 117 or so - enough that I think he could suspend my license on the spot. YIKES! I waited patiently until he came back up. He told me he was issuing me a citation, but was cutting me a HUGE break by issuing me a "Failure to obey traffic control devices" and not for doing 117 in a 65 zone. The citation he issued does NOT come with any points and the fine is "only" $109.50. I hate to think of the cost if he cited me for the speeding. I thanked him and he started to walk back, then stopped and said something like, "Your car runs great huh. And it looks amazing. Slow it down and take it easy the rest of the way home." I said "Thank you sir, I will" and drove off.

Wow - these cars are fun, but so easy to get up to over 100mph and not even know it. I lucked out big time. this is the first ticket I've recieved in many many years - I think maybe even as long ago as 10 years.

Anyway, just a reminder to slow it down and be safe out there. Even with the best radar detector in the world I couldn't have avoided this one because of it. We control our actions and ultimately must pay the price for them. I'd hate to hear of someone else getting a huge fine and loosing their license, or worse yet, wrecking their car or injuring themself or others.

So slow down and be carful fellow E60 members - it could be you next time, and you might not get the good guy cop I got.

Happy driving - its fastly becoming that time of year.

WOW lucky you! So how was your driving style afterwards? Stick to 65? And did you manage to pull away from the Lexus?

BHA, wow, that was a very lucky break for you. I'm surprised he did not call the SWAT team to have their picture taken with your car, like the other poster a few weeks back.

Good fortune returned a favor this time. There are very few highways in the NE USA that are "safe" for triple digit travel.

I wonder if that Lexus (Or whatever) driver is having a giggle fit about baiting you ...

let some friendly NCO advice reach your ears sir

SLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOW DOWN

i cant tell you how many counseling statements we have to do because people like to play "lets see whose shit we can push in farther while driving" game when they get pulled over and we know the sheriffs,

I got a $150 ticket for doing 40 in a 35 and i was in uniform, but over here by FLW, cops and sheriffs have penis envy

Great story. Something very very similar happened to me about 6 months ago and after a certain amount of time you "forget" you're constantly breaking the speed limit on expressways. We have powerful, high performance cars (even the inline sixers are fast)! Its very easy to speed and at 100mph+ and the fact that the E60 is so quiet, smooth, and stable at that speed doesn't help. My 1st car was a Chevy Corsica and that pile of shit would shake at 65. It sure helped you not to speed in that regard! Haha.

WOW - I'm glad you didn't get the "Real Ticket." Couple months back I posted how I was doing 140 mph out on an open highway at 3 am. Only me and a Ford F150 on the road. Down in South Florida our highways are flat and straight for miles and miles. Any way, I was cruising doing 90 mph and being followed by a black F150. I got sight of a really long straight and floored it!! Got to 140 mph in like two heart beats. The car was still pulling strong. Needless to say, the F150 was way behind me at that point. I get off at the next exit and get stuck at a red light. Eventually the F150 pulls up next to me and rolls down the window. My heart hits the floor when he shows me his badge. Long story short, he let me go after asking me if I had a problem. My only response was, "I was just trying to have fun officer." Can't believe I said that. I guess he was off duty or something. He says, "That wasn't cool." I learned two lessons that night: The 550 is indeed fast and I need to be smarter than that. I travel too much for work and need a clean license to rent cars everywhere I go. So to everyone else out there. Be smart and take it easy.
