I thought my Sport Wheel was made of leather like in past BMWs. Today when getting into the car after it sat in the sun all day I nearly burned my hands when took the wheel. I've only had that happen with faux leather wheels and have never had that problem in a BMW even when I lived in Tucson. Any one know for sure? Leather or not?

My M5 steering wheel is probably real leather. No symptom like you described. Same for my original steering wheel.
Ya M5 steering wheel is leather.
But as for the original question. I've been questioning that myslef. I dont feel the heat as I use a sunshade but It surely doesnt feel like leather to me. In my Lexus its smooth LEATHER!

EBMCS03, did you change out your wheel? The picture in your gallery is the same sport wheel that I have. The M Wheel has the bump on the inside of the hand positions. Take a look at My530i's pics.

I don't know about the leather in my my steering wheel but I do know that there is not one bit of wood in my $149 "wood" gear shift knob or my $144 "wood" e-brake handle.

My Ride: Due May 2006:
530d SE Touring, Automatic, Titanium Grey, beige leather comfort seats, light poplar wood trim, sports steering wheel, graduated tinted windscreen, panoramic sunroof, pro radio, logic 7, 6CD, visibility pack, storage compartment pack, adv aircon
I have the optional (255) "Sports" steering wheel (with no heating). This is not the same as the "M-Sport" version.
I just wanted something nicer than the standard wheel in the SE. The original was too big a diameter and not chunky enough in the hand.
I'm sure it's real leather. The brochure also states "Leather".
Regards
Nick
