You guys are great, just what I needed to hear, yes DCT is out, and many have said what I feel, the X5 is a great car, not a 550 but a very fine Bimmer. The M3 has always been in the back of my mind as a fun car to own, but not practical especialely with a stick for the type of driving I have to do.
Anyway, I leave the M3 brouchure on the kitchen counter only to find my wife looking through it and offering suggestions for color choice? What a wife...
I'll keep you informed, thanks you all.

My everyday driver's are the 2007 550i and 2008 X5 4.8 great cars, especially because I'm on the road for a living and drive about 50,000 miles a year, hence two cars. Our weekend toy is the Mini S, yes we are crazy, but the kids are out of the house and I can afford to play a little.
Since I first read about BMW's new DCT transmission, I've wanted to try it, never liked the SMG, anyway last night I talked a local dealer into letting me drice the new M3 with DCT; in the smoothest setting, the shifts smoother than my 550. The car was a blast, I was amazed how well this car drove, smooth, comfortable and very very very fast........
I want one, am I crazy to trade in a 2007 550 for an M3??????
