Recently purchased a 2004 525i. Any and all assistance would be appreciated.

1. What is a "Mechatronics"? How do you reset the transmission?
2. Do you have to remove the complete headlight cluster /assembly to change or upgrade the AE lights?
3. How do you initialize the car after a battery change?
4. Which aftermarket warranty is the best value?
5. Who knows of good, fair-priced independent repair facility in southern Arizona?
6. Can I convert my taillights to the LCI/LEDs?
7. This being my first BMW; what the shit have I gotten myself into??? (LOL)

Thank you in advance for all of your assistance.

Yes, you do not have to take off the front bumper, just loosen the screws and then you pull each headlight out to get ot the AE bulbs... fairly easy with the DIY's that are available to you on the forum.

6. Can I convert my taillights to the LCI/LEDs?

YES, you can buy the OEM LCI tails and get a conversion cable from a member name Bruce Miranda... search to find link.

Never heard of this term. Do you mean Steptronic? That's BMW's name for their auto tranny. And as far as I know, you can only reset SMG trannies by coasting your car at a certain speed and pulling back both paddles on the steering wheel for about 10 seconds.

3. How do you initialize the car after a battery change?
Not sure what you mean by initialize. I vaguely recall the car and manual talking about this but I think it just means to reset your clock and settings..etc... There's another process called battery registration which have been discussed multiple times on here. It is suggested that you have the dealer "register" your new battery or it won't last too long.

4. Which aftermarket warranty is the best value?
There are quite a few and you'll get as many opinions as the many owners who have different ones. I have Easy Care and have had good experiences with them thus far.

1. What is a "Mechatronics"? How do you reset the transmission? Why do you need to know this? Is there a problem with yours?
2. Do you have to remove the complete headlight cluster /assembly to change or upgrade the AE lights? No, you do not have to remove the headlight although it makes it easier.

I forgot to add that you can check out this thread about resetting the transmission:

https://5series.net/forums/topic/400...smoother-shift

Many people swear by it but others don't notice a difference...

Here's another view of the mechatronics module. I've read on this forum about the o-rings failing on the sealing sleeve causing leaks.

I feel a "Thump" after coming to a stop. I know "feel" and "thump" don't usually go together; but that's the best I can describe it. And it usually happens during my more "spirited" stops. When I feather-foot it, the sensation is less likely to happen. And thank you for all of your replies. I love this forum. This forum solved my greatest annoyance with my car; that being the rattling volume control button on the steering wheel. Thanks for everything.

The drive of your life! As far as reliability, etc, it seems like some people have all kinds of problems, while others have really good luck. As long as you didn't get one of the lemons you'll love it!
