hello everyone, im hoping someone on here can help me figure this out
car
2006 530 xi AWD
automatic
issue
awd malfunction light no 4x4.
i was in a parking lot that had some ice and decided to hit the throtle a little too hard i think, eventually a wheel or two caught solid ground and werent spinning like the others. all the 4x4 messages came on and hasnt left. had them reset but they return right away.
had a guy pull the errors and this is what he got
5462
54c6
5f3a
i believe it is the transfer case actuator motor, but i can be wrong please help.
the car is in great condition cosidering it has 300k miles, all highway, and havent replaced many parts, starter, battery, control arm, and water pump to date, i do not want to go crazy replacing a part that may not be needed. i also have maintained this car from the date it was out of warranty. so id like to keep it to see if i can make 350k

When I disconnected my battery and reconnected it, I got the 4x4 light. To clear it, I had to go from lock to lock on the steering wheel. Did it twice from all the way left to right to left to right. Just do it while the car is running, in park or neutral. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't know what else. I have a 2007 530xi

Thanx, I tried that and no luck. 😞

I have the same car as you, except manual transmission. Never had this problem. I do get 4x4 failure if I disconnect the battery and reconnect it. But, once I turn the car off and back on again, it goes away. Same thing happens on my wife's 2009 X5.
I did Google up some of the codes you have and you may be right about the actuator.

This is most likely the actuator motor. My friend's 2008 528xi had a similar issue and replacing the motor fixed it. Another friend currently has the same issue on his 2008 328xi but hasn't gotten around to fixing it. This seems like a common issue with higher mileage xi's just from doing a google search. Great seeing a late model bimmer hit 300k with little issues though. Good luck with the fix.
