Everybody goes to look at a new car. Many times. Nothing to do with the car, more the experience.
No comparison between the two, take it from someone who has had both.
I still love starting my 5 up every day because it's a blast to drive. Never thought that about the E, nor did my wife, who is pretty much OK with anything with heated seats.
And most people still try to get ahead of me. What do you think they are trying to prove? Never did that in the E.

Luxury cars under 80k Based on appearance only
1) Jaguar
2) Audi
3) Mercedes
4) Lexus
5) BMW
6) Infiniti

The only car I would ever consider owning over an e60 would be the new A5. That car is pure SEX!!!

An MB over a E60? They are 2 different vehicles, it's like comparing a pony over a stallion. 5er all the way, baby.
E Class is a direct competitor for the 5 series. I don't know why you guys are saying they are different type of cars.

I seem to hear a lot of comments of "you are comparing apples to oranges" and other mindless comments from people lately.

With that said.,. IMO MB is focused more on luxury, hence the lack of performance compared to BMWs.
BMW is focused more on sporty and performance oriented.

i completely disagree. you cant even compare the engineering on a BMW to lexus or infiniti. BMW is a far superior automobille. maybe my car was 60K and i dont have navi and ventilated seats like the GS i test drove, but someone somewhere will be driving my 535 in 20 years from now and still enjoying it.

BMW is a drivers car built for enthusiasts

I tend to agree, but based on the reviews of the new E Class, it does appear that Mercedes has paid much more attention to handling and not just ride this time around. MB's most recent models all seem to have a better ride/handling balance than before. I also think MB has an advantage in the interior, both in terms of styling and quality. Exterior styling is subjective, and I think the E60 is aging very gracefully indeed, but the new E is also a good looking car. If I were in the market for a luxury/sport sedan I'd certainly have it on my shortlist along with the E60, A6 and XF.

You cant even compare E class with 5 series. I believe the E class goes with the 3 series (if any)

My neighbor/friend Ken just brought his new E300 home . His family keeps looking at it and it makes me look at it too! No offense to y'all but for me, it makes the 5er look cheap. Please convince me that the 5er is not just a sporty sedan but a classy sport sedan since I am gonna order my 530i within this month .
This should help: I think the E550 is a beautiful car from the outside, but I rented an 08' E350 in Florida and it was like a jail sentence. Car feels solid and rides beautifully, but it is so f%$king boring to drive! I got back into 550 and it was like going from a Gentleman's Warehouse suit to a custom tailored suit from Naples. The 5 series is that much better to drive.

Look all you want, but you spend more time behind the wheel and that's where the BMWs beauty shines through.

Enjoy the 530.

I always go with the style of the car, and design.

From these 3 German brands: Audi, MB, and BMW. I would pick BMW, because of the 5 series . In "MY" opinion neither Audi nor MB have a car that I would pick over mine (Staying in the same price range of course). Is not just the brand, "I" think the 5 series, in "MY" opinion has better even style than the 1,3,Z,X, and 6 series.
