Everybody goes to look at a new car. Many times. Nothing to do with the car, more the experience.
No comparison between the two, take it from someone who has had both.
I still love starting my 5 up every day because it's a blast to drive. Never thought that about the E, nor did my wife, who is pretty much OK with anything with heated seats.
And most people still try to get ahead of me. What do you think they are trying to prove? Never did that in the E.

I seem to hear a lot of comments of "you are comparing apples to oranges" and other mindless comments from people lately.
With that said.,. IMO MB is focused more on luxury, hence the lack of performance compared to BMWs.
BMW is focused more on sporty and performance oriented.

You cant even compare E class with 5 series. I believe the E class goes with the 3 series (if any)

I always go with the style of the car, and design. 
From these 3 German brands: Audi, MB, and BMW. I would pick BMW, because of the 5 series
. In "MY" opinion neither Audi nor MB have a car that I would pick over mine (Staying in the same price range of course). Is not just the brand, "I" think the 5 series, in "MY" opinion has better even style than the 1,3,Z,X, and 6 series.
