I have a 2010 528i with the new iDrive. It allows the playing of DVDs on the Nav screen...but ONLY when the car is in PARK. While I understand this restriction...what is the point of being able to play DVDs if it can only be done while the car is in PARK? The battery isn't going to last long if the car is turned off...and I'm not positive, but I don't think it's good for the car to just sit and run idle for a couple of hours while you watch a movie. I'm just not seeing the point. Any ideas?

Because we can "hack" it and make it video in motion

Don't hack it you'll crash. Also, If an insurance co get wind of it during a claim then it's a way out for them from paying out!

I've seen a few CDs that you install and will change the settings. Never heard of anyone using them though. Otherwise, you would need to have it coded. Probably about a 15 minute job but unless you know someone they will charge you lots to do it. As for the insurance not paying out, by law they have to just like if you were speeding and caused an accident. They would probably cancel you afterwards though if they could determine this event actually caused the crash.

Lol... really. How would they even begin to find out. Secondly, this is obviously under the assumption that the driver is capable of driving if media is playing. Otherwise, all bets are off anyway.

Yeah I did the DVD in motion its cool but afterwards i realized it's kinda useless. The reason being because its extremely dangerous. I have to fight every fiber not to watch what's on that screen.
It's such a thing that after using it once I've never really used it again. I wouldnt miss it too much if I lost that feature because of a coding mistake whereas a feature like fold-in mirrors or windows up mods I use everyday (even then not the hugest deal).
A funny hack would be to get that the movie on the HUD lol then you'd really be asking for trouble.
