Thumbs up

Hi guys,

Just bought a pre-owned 535i but was not given the emergency spare key by the dealership. They claim it's useless anyways as it cannot start the car however the car manual says you can with the glove compartment adapter. Also, they claim BMW cannot cut a new one for me. Are they just blowing me off? What happens if you lost your regular key? Does that mean you can't get a replacement (with the integrated/valet key)? Surely they can replace the spare (plastic) key? Anyone with advice?

Thanks

Ditto - I lost mine when I got my wallet stolen. It's a bad place, smelly ole London.

I just got three new keys (one plastic) + reprogramming for my car. And yes, with the plastic one I can start the car.

The plastic key WILL start the car (with the adaptor that should be in your glove box), and they are replaceable - not sure whether they are replaceable individually or as part of a complete new set.

The only cars that have a plastic adapter in the glovebox are cars that have an engine start/stop button. If you have a metal key you insert into the steering column (instead of a fob) then you don't have/need the plastic adapter in the glove box.
