Nice 530i. Can you tell how you install your rear bumper reflectors. I just received a set from Germany. Do they simply pop in and out. Please let me know how you installed them. Thanks.

Nice Color

urbo73...how do you feel about the power in your 530. Many on this board suggest the 545, why did you decide on the 530? My wife came to me about the car and said, if you are going to keep it 7 or 8 years, why don't we consider the 545, I told her that it will be 10k more than my 525 with the R6 engine...she told me I better stick to my plan. Just curious about your pleasure with the drive.

Thanks!

Aaron,

There were several reasons why I decided on the 530i vs. the 545i, and price in fact was not the biggest consideration. It would have been I think (if I recall correctly) about 6K more for an equivalently equipped 545i, not peanuts, but in this price range not huge either.

I personally look at the E60 as a luxury/sporty family sedan. My wife also drives this car (on occasion). If I wanted a more powerful and sportier car, the 545i would not be the car for me. With that much power I would want something I could throw around more easily - something that handles even better. So I would get an M5 if I wanted a sedan or an M3 if I wanted a coupe. I would also move to some place where I could use that power! I would get frustrated with an M3 or an M5 driving it in the city.

So for me the 530i is perfect for what I want. The 525i is too underpowered. The 06 525 may be OK. I don't know since I haven't driven it. The 06 530i will be a bit better too, but I find that my 530i is powerful enough for me. It's resposive enough, and I don't really feel that I lack power when I need to pass, etc. And I drive pretty agressively. Maybe I drove too many 300+HP RWD cars in my life and got that out of my system for now. Who knows? Does ANYONE really NEED 300+HP? Not really IMO. But again it depends and this is just one person's opinion.

You have to ask yourself how will you drive you car? Will you be able to use all the power the 545 has to offer? If so, how often? Is it worth 10K to you for that? Only you can determine that. Many variables.

I feel this choice is very personal. Just think about it a lot so you don't have any regrets later. I don't. One with a 525i may not either. It depends, like I said. You can always ask people how happy they are with their car, but in the end everyone is different. I may be happy with my choice, but I bet there are a lot who wished they paid the 6K more and gotten the 545i.

Thanks urbo73...everytime I've test driven the 525, I've been pleased and I have been driving an 86 caprice classic and an expedition, neither or which are speed demons, so maybe that's why the 525 is enough for me. With the R6, I assume it will be even better, so I will do one last test drive with my wife and see how she feels then. I have taken it up the mountain (pretty steep here in El Paso), on ramps, off ramps, etc. So far, so good for me. I have NOT driven the 545, partly because I am happy with what I have tested so far. I have driven an automatic 530, and it didn't feel too much quicker, but that was when they first arrived and I didn't use the manual function on it. I plan to get a manual, so if the hp of the 525 R6 is close to that of the 530 today, and it's lighter, then I may be OK with the 525. As I said, I will test drive it and make sure I'll be happy for the long haul.

Thanks for the reply!

congrats urbo73, very nice car, and the black adds a nice contrast.

Also, congrats on the game this weekend.? There was no need to worry, the Pats didn't give the Pats a chance!? Next week should be interesting.? NE continues to impress me!

I want to play the Falcons in the Super Bowl too, since I can't stand the Eagles, but it all depends on whether they get there And that depends on which Vick decides to show up. If the good Vick shows up for the Eagles game, then the bad Vick will show up in the Super Bowl since he alternates so much. If the bad Vick shows up for the Eagles game, then the bad Vick goes home ! Pats will take it all though. Doesn't matter which bird we play
