My Ride: 2010 VW Passat Wagon 2.0l Tsi Grey/Grey Budapest 18" Lost to HPFP issues: 08 535i sport pkg Lost to Dreaded E61 Sun roof leaks: 07 E61 530Xi

Stock un-modified or modded N54's for the injector issue. It's been reported on e90post, 1addicts,here, bimmerfest.

The Waste gate ping, usually you here at low rpm, say under 3500rpm, sounds like some on dropped a metal baring in to a blender.... ping ping ping ping. Not much has worked for a long term fix.

New waste gates
Waste gate actuator arms
new turbos
It all ways comes back.

The 29.2 software "Fixed " it but they way it did that was to open the waste gates at low rpms , so no "ping " sound was heard , but this also re moved the boost from the system, thus introducing Lag to a Lag-less turbo system even if customers did not care about the noise. It got to the point where the BMW CCA got involved and was preparing to run a large article due to the hate mail they were getting over it.

The injector issue is just now really starting to rear its head. Many people that had the HPFP replaced multiple times are now reporting this. I've seen it on Both Stock and modded cars, but the key seems to be having the HPFP replaced a time or two. At start the car runs Very rough like the idle is off for about 5 mins till the car warms up. This normally does not happen. I seen reports of one injector replaced with no result , to having All the injectors replaced with mixed results.
I have seen a couple reports of no HPFP going bad and having this issue.

This is a different issue than the "long Crank" that is usually indicative of your HPFP fixing to go south in the next few weeks, but they both may be related ,but I'm not a engineer ,could not pass the math in College...lol

BMW has not released any numbers on the failures so no clue on how wide spread ether are. The HPFP was wide spread enough to have a 10 year/ 120,000 mile warranty on that part alone, I don't think that would have happened if it was like a 1 in a million failure.

Ironically the HPFP is a Mechanical pump drive by a prop shaft on the motor, it's not electrical. Which is the opposite of what I would have thought with the car having an electric water pump...

Ok guys i finally worked the deal after a week of back and forth bargaining and got my 08 535i, has pretty much all option except nav...
it is AW with black int, with 19k miles......
one owner car from dealer....32.5k not a bad deal...??

anyhow..can someone PLEASE tell me how to find the code to pair my blackberry on bluetooth? i cant find it anywhere. is there a general code?

thanks for any help and let the mods begin....
I think if you pair a blackberry with a 535i your fuel pump may fail.

Just kidding, man. Just trying to bring a smile to your face. Don't worry, once you get the fuel pump fixed you'll love this car. Just one suggestion. Ask the sales manager point black if this car was a previous return from the lemon law. See if they would put it in writing.

Good luck.

. i did post some pics of my car in a new thread.. check it out its really nice...
and i just asked him if it was a buyback or had any issues in regards to the hpfp and he said no and showed me all the previous reports from service dept...

Meh, I am torn on the 535i. I was deadset on a 550i but the 535i is definitely tempting especially for the price. I just really don't want to deal with that HFFP mess as well as any other turbo maintance/repair down the road if I own the car out of warranty. 550i seems more rock solid for the long hall. Plus I have never owned a V8 even though its not even that much quicker than the 535i it has less problems and well the V8 Rumble

I may jump into the 2010 5 series (after it loses 50% of its value in a year, kinda jk) if they offer the V8 TT powerplant from the X6 tho

I actually liked the way the 535i power was delivered better than the 550, but i liked the options of the 550 better although my car is pretty hard loaded...
Now that the hpfp problem is all solved :fingers corssed: i just looove this car!!

Wait all solved? Does that mean that there was a recall and all of the HFFP's were replaced with non-defective units? That would be my definition of "solved". Just replacing faulty HFFP with another fault HFFP is not the solution (which is what I have heard has been going on).

Quick Reply: picked up my new 535i sport today!! :)
