Well maybe morons like me should not own a bimmer-let alone an E60. So all this time-3 months and 7k miles later I was thinking the service notification numbers meant that you should get the service at the listed mileage. For example my car started out saying I needed an oil service at 14k. So I thought when my car hit 14k I need a service. Well I had called the dealer for another issue and he happened to mention that number will change based on how I drive-fast/slow, city/highway etc. So I noticed that number kept dropping but I was also driving very hard the whole time. Well today when I passed 7k and the oil service had said "7k" I was expecting a warning or indicator light and planning to call the dealer on monday.

Well stupid me-no warning light or anything came on and it dawned on me that these numbers probably mean that is the mileage REMAINING until you need a service-hence explaining why it kept decreasing But even the manual is not very clear-maybe this is obvious to most but man how moronic of me-this is true by the way right? about how it works-not about me being moronic

Based on your posts, I'm beginning to think the same thing.

Yes, the CBS (condition based servicing) indicators work as a countdown. Depending on how you use your car these figures do also change sometimes, so don't get worried if all of a sudden it shows you another few miles more or less.
