Default PDC sensor mounting mechanism

Hi all,

Recently a detail shop pushed one of the PDC sensors into the bumper so it was recessed. Needless to say, it drove the system crazy. I pooped the driver's kidney grill off and pushed it back flush with the bumper cover.

Do these sensors have tabs or some other way of fixing themselves into the slots? Mine seems pretty loose in there but works now.

Thanks!

BMW uses double sided tape. They are extremely strong, but once they pull away, the tape loses its adhesive ability. Your OEM tape has lost its adhesion to the bumper.

You can find 3M double sided tape, get the 2mm thick outdoor version at any store. You'll have to cut it to fit the mounting shape of the PDC sensor, but it works just like OEM.

That's about the best response I could have asked for! Can I access the sensor by dropping the engine debris shield or do I need to drop the bumper cover?

If you are able to grab the entire PDC assembly the way you did by removing the kidney grille, you should be able to give a good yank and pull it out. Since it's already loose, it should come off easy. Then just disconnect the wiring and you'll see how the double sided tape is attached to the mounting flange on the sensor housing.

It's a pretty blind grab. I don't recall there being a lot of extra length in the wire leading to the sensor. I could not actually see it. I'll give it a try when I install the new grills. Thanks for the idea and follow up.

I swapped front and rear bumpers on my pre-lci car and the sensors basically wedged in place in the old and new bumpers with just tabs holding them in. They've been sturdy and not moved since then. Maybe yours are different than mine though.
