It's a caution so that the slit does not get covered/blocked by the paint. If you spent the time to put tape in/on the slits it is possible to paint - it just takes a lot of patients and time.

Hi

my rear bumper was damaged, including PDC sensors.

The professionnal painter who handled the work is a friend. He had forced to order PDC sensors right from BMW: BMW use a specific process to color the PDC sensors that does not worry their behaviour.

My friend confirmed me that usual paint work, even if perfectly executed, may perturbe sensors, leading to bad informations returned to calculators, then finally to the driver.

So do not paint them by yourself if you do not want to bump against a wall because of disturbed sensors.

Do not repaint!
in fact, we just ordered some new ones for a customer of ours, and BMW specifies that BMW WILL PAINT IT... and not have paint shops do it due to sensitivity.

Which is just another way to say "Ya'll are too stupid to know how to dissemble the unit to paint it correctly."

would it be a good idea to disconnect battery when removing the sensors, in case of errors? or just not switching on the engine with them disconnected is enough?
