I'm taking delivery on my 550 tomorrow, which is equipped with PDC on M-sport aprons. Can anyone tell me the height of the "objects" that the Park Distance Control will detect i.e. parking blocks below the level of the fascia, or just other bumpers and objects at the height of the sensors? Thanks!

Mine doesn't pick up parking blocks below the fascia...I have a nice 8 inch scratch/gouge on the left side of my front bumber...

...I really want to fix it but expect more over the term of the lease. It's primarily underneath the front bumper (the underside of the bumber angles downwards, people who have seen it will understand), so it's not a big deal.

It will not dectect curbs, blocks, etc. I messed my bumper/facia up once. Had the facia repaired and repainted for $850.

It detects things at the height about between the floor and where the sensors are. So Parking blocks are just a tad too low. I'm guessing things about 1.5 feet above the floor and maybe like 8 inches above parking blocks and curbs it will pick up. Never really meausred it but thats a good rough estimate.

Thanks for the responses, crew.
I agree that a reverse camera would be the most useful utility of a true PDC, as on the new Infiniti M35/45 (which works beautifully). Somehow Infiniti can put it into effect "standard" on a vehicle that enters near the 525 pricepoint - I suppose technology is cheaper in Japan.
In the meantime, I'll have to find that parking spot in the geometric centre of the lot! Picking up my 550 in 8 short hours... hopefully I'll have pics posted tomorrow!!!

If you have an M sport kit you need to invest in a Gang plank to get to the curbs. I park miles away!!!

Thx man for advertising my stupidity ...

Should we know ban my530i?

Just remember what FlowerFred did at the Belgium meet... and this is STILL something we remind him whenever we can...
So, you will be remembered as "the guy who reversed into a concrete block at the world wide meet" for a LONG time...
