Default PCV heater recall Performed

Hello Friends, Back story -- 2007 bmw 530i, inherited from my uncle. Running perfectly. - 122k miles ( I have put about 10k+ or minus on the car since I got it) I had been getting notices on the PCV heater valve recall.
Well against my better judgment I took the car to the dealer to have the recall performed -- I should have never let the dealer touch the car.
Pulling out of the dealership parking lot after the repair- wouldn't you know the car overheated . Is it just an unfortunate coinincidence or did the dealer tech mess something up with the recall. --- I asked the tech if they disconnected the battery when the repair was performed. They said no. According to the dealership they say the electric water pump failed and presented me with an $1800 repair estimate. I did negotiate this down to under 1k. -- but this all seems very fishy to me.

Any and everyone please chime in with opinions as to if not disconnecting the battery during the PCV heater valve recall -- if somehow it fried the solenoid on the water pump ---

The 2 have nothing to do with each other.

The 2 have nothing to do with each other electrically. I would think at 122k & 17 years (if the pump has not been replaced before) you were on borrowed time. Personally I would just do it myself with the thermostat and call it a day.

Dealer read the codes -- said it threw a code on the electric water pump about 100 miles before I dropped it off this morning for the PCV recall.

I am just going to let the dealer replace the pump at an agreed on price of 800 bucks including a coolant change & other misc parts. & chalk it up as a coincidence. .

What I am thinking happened is -- when I drive the car I just take off and drive and don't do extended idling. I think after the recall was performed they thought they were doing me a favor having the car washed and vacuumed and the porter left the car idling for 30 or 40 minutes and it stressed the old water pump on and thus it konked out.

It doesn't matter if you're driving or the car is just idling the pump operates the same. It's all controlled by a computer and the temp is the same once up to operating temperature (can't remember if you have an electric pump or not). It was just time for it to go out. What I'm not understanding is it throwing a code 100 miles before and you didn't exhibit a fault on the dash. Then again as I remember on the E60s the fault only comes when temps are threatening the block.

I remember when my water pump was throwing a code, it did not give an iDrive notification. But it probably was not at the block threatening level yet.

My 2006 530xi had water pump codes maybe 6 months prior to the yellow iDrive drive gently warning. I knew it was coming at some point.

Yes - no fault reported on the dash ever - until I was driving if off the dealer lot- didn't even get off the lot when I got the high temp warning.
As an fyi the day before I took it in for the recall, I scanned the codes and everything passed.

What did you use to scan it for codes? There's codes BMWs have that will not show up on a regular scanner.
