I had the same light came up about a couple of months ago and I brought it to the dealer still under warranty. But they said my car is not the one under recall and resolved it to be caused by a bad battery cable which was replaced.
I called the BMWNA and was given the same answer that not under recall.
I have not seen the light so far again.
Bad battery cable??? That sounds odd. Did they tell you which cable exactly?

UPDATE:
BMW NA called me and told me that they had spoken to my SA and Sterling in NB and they will diagnose the passenger restraint malfunction and if it is related to the recall then BMW NA will cover the charges, however i will have to pay out of pocket the diagnose fee...originally $140, but they will only charge me $70, which i will still try to have BMW NA pay for it.
I have the appointment tomorrow, so hopefully this airbag error is related to the recall.
Will post an update when i hear back from SA.

I have the same problem. It recently came on when I was messing with battery. Meaning I had disc the battery for what ever reason. That's when it came on, so I'm inclined to believe it might b a battery issue. I too called bmw and got the same response not on the list.

It was something to do with the loose or bad battery cable. I will look at that service invoice when I get home today and will let you know what was exactly done.

I have a 04 530 and I had this problem about a year ago. I got a letter in the mail from BMW about it. I took the letter to the dealer and they fixed it for free.

Does anyone know which VIN's are covered by the recall? After being rejected has anyone asked BMWNA that question, just to double check?
Seems like the covered VIN's should be published.

Hi

I had the seat mat issue, here in NZ, got quoted $1200 (USD $800+/-) to fix it, the previous owner had warned me she had tried to get it fixed twice under warranty (the only thing ever to go wrong).

After receiving the quote and having owned the car for a 1 week, (it was about 2 months out of factory warranty at the time) I said to the SA how do think my BMW experience is looking? please fix the car, as I can't drive it, and discuss this with someone at BMWNZ, as I didn't think they'd like this situation and that I would be in touch to discuss.

I ended up reasonably happy as when I returned he seamed (or was a great actor) really surprised that he had been instructed to ask me to pay only 30% of the account and BMW would be picking up the rest....BMW should look after you as this definately a wide spread 100% known fault.

Cheers

I feel lucky!
When in for an oil change last week, my SA came and told me there was an open recall on my 06 530xi.
He said they have two repair options depending on the vehicle. Mine is going in Friday to have the air bag seat sensor pad replaced.
I am out of the basic factory warranty due to miles, but certified with maintenance to 100K if that possibly effects things.
