We seem to have a conflict here. Iceman says airbag may or may not deploy, even if a passenger is sitting there (on 8/5). If true, that's very serious. Another says problem is in the light and airbag will always deploy if seat belt is buckled.

What gives?

As far as I know Iceman is right.. Why else would there be a sensor in the seat if buckeling a belt would be enough????

To determine the correct force at which to deploy, that's why. That's what's supposed to make them 'smart'.

If a 10 year old child sits in the front and the airbag goes out with the maximum power it might break the child's neck. I doubt the airbag doesn't functoin. Only that probable it's recomended now to cary only heavier adult persons to avoid problems.

BY THE WAY.. can you tell me what week is this one comming? The number of the week.. Is it week 34 or 35 (of the year)???

What?s the latest on this issue? Is it the light or the airbag with the problem?

Talked to my dealer and he told me that there is a fix now and I can bring the car in. Fix shouldn't take more than 4 hours...
So everybody who got that recall letter: check with your dealer! Fix now available!

Iceman, did they say what the fix was? There wasn't on official "fix" in the US, however, I just had the seat mat sensor replaced on the passenger side, and the problem is fixed! Wondering if the fix on your end is software related?

Yep. They have to reprogram/modify the software. That's how I understand it. And then it makes sense, that not everybody received a recall letter...
