Out of the blue my iDrive says that the pass. airbag has a malfunction. I read up on it and went to bmwusa.com and it states that only 04-06 are on the recall list. I took my car to the dealership and they want 190 to diagnose the problem and 1700 for parts and labor.

I'm mechanically inclined so shelling out damn near 2K for a bad ass mat is out of the question. I'd like to do this myself, have any of you tried fixing the problem yourselves? If so what did you do? Replacement parts, etc? A service tech recommended to pull the battery terminal to try to see if it would reset itself.

I took my car for the same problem and they replaced it for free. They extended the warranty to 100k miles, call BMWNA for confirmation.

I did, they said the recall only affected 04-06 I have a MY07. So anything they do will come out of pocket.

i have this same issue... although they quoted $990 AUD to fix the job here... Still a rip off. Let me know if you find a solution or do it yourself. There are many guys here that have the same issues....and that have had them replaced and repeated issues...
Because, unfortunately, BMW only fixed the problem by giving owners a new mat...not a new version... so after a year or two of wear and tear, your gonna have the same issue...

I read that it is about $150USD for the part according to realoem.com/bmw
If you do attempt this, take photos and document.

Plus, Coding is required to reset the error once you have replaced the mat.

It is a recall, I found on MSN auto, I think. Brought my car in, paid $50 and they replace all the bad parts.
JeRZee XiE60, nice wheels, looking good!
