I have 166 19" wheels with BMW recommended 245/35/19 and lately the front pass side has been hitting the fender lightly upon hitting a dip in the road. Tires are new so it may have something to do with it but only the pass side does it. New tires are pirellis, Contis never did it. Any ideas? Car is going in the shop tomorrow so I'd like an ideal. Car is an '05 545i with 43k miles.....seems a bit early for suspension compnents to wear no?

Thanks guy!

good you mentioned this. i have an identical situation: 2005 545, m166 wheels, but with Michelin Pilot M/S.

only pass. side. only big dips, normally it is not rubbing. when i have full car of people it's more noticeble. and i also hope it's not a suspension issue.

my first thought was is that M166's are bigger then 124's that's why it's doing it

Go to tires.com. They list plus size tires for most vehicles. That might answer your question.

Tread height and width do vary, even among the same brand of tires.

Just for laughs, have you looked and made sure that both front tires are the same size? On a different car, Discount Tire did install the wrong aspect ratio tire on one of the 4.

Sometimes different brand tires with the same size are different... hard to explain but the edge of the tires, the side wall, some are rounder and some are more of a 90 degree L shape. so pirelli's might be more of a L shape "sticking" out more

Same thing happens to me with my Falken 452's. Happens to me when I am turning right into a steep drive way or something.

no even though 19" is bigger than 18" tire size change to compensate that.. less rubber on 19" than 18" so basically there is no huge difference on size wise....

all i can think of is, since m166 is heavier than 124, i believe there are too much pressure on stock shocks...

Is your car lowered???

What i can guess is your strut is done and maybe it needs to be replaced... what you can try is put car on the lift and put jack stand underneath it... and see if you can move your strut by pushing it up with your wheels on.. if it travels quite a bit, your strut needs to be replaced...
