Several sources are reporting that the current 5 series will cease to be built after this coming December. BMW usually closes factories for several weeks during the holiday season so a December cutoff makes perfect sense as tooling for the F10/11 would begin after the hiatus. We have conflicting reports of when the production of the F10 will begin; us speculating puts the new models in showroom sometime in March.

What this means now is that dealers have been told to only take SPECIAL ORDERS until 10/09/09 for 5 Series models. The remainder of the production run will more than likely be common specced cars for dealer inventory.

My sale person told about the same on 10/02/2009. I thought he was messing with my head. (that is easy to do though)

I talked with my dealer here in Germany, he told me, I had to decide until december whether to order the E60 or not, starting from january they will only admit orders for the new 5er.

greetings,Ivano

It's a sad/happy thing, the end of our beloved E60 and then the birth of our soon to be loved F10!!

Yeah, more sad than happy here. From the advanced photos of the F10 I didn't care for the styling compared to the current model. Plus, I'm keeping mine a good long while anyway. It will be interesting to see how the turbo v8 goes over for folks -- my preference is the naturally aspirated power.

My further thought about the new motor is, it's a new motor.... if I were going for an F10 I'd be waiting a couple more years to get the "patches" ...

I had to make the decision :

Buy a new e60 and get the 30% off or
wait another 6 to 12 months and buy the new F10

I decided to buy the E60, I know this will drive me nuts when I will get to see the f10 the first time on the road, but hey, who cares, the E60 is a beautiful car, and not to mention the 30% off

Here in Germany the sales on new cars reduced by 50% since 3 months, so that I'm very confident that my dealer will give me the 30% off. for now they are a bit stingy, they give me only 18%.

Bye,Ivano

Well, I was waiting for the F10 but never came when I needed. So I went ahead and renewed my lease for 30 moths.

It will be about 2 painful years looking at the F10 while driving the good old E60. Who knows maybe I get used to the feeling and not think much about it.
