Happened to my car and dealer fixed at no cost. SA said that it might be caused by battery charge getting low due to non-use of the car
(over a week). Today I bought a mini trickle charger to maintain battery charge.

I know the dealer will fix it but I'm getting tired of paying the $50 deductible. In the last three months I must have paid over $250 in deductibles over stupid things that are happening to a car that has 55k km on it. As to the above note about car companies build cars that don't last more than 5-10 years, I tell the Japanese are building good cars especially Acura, robust, reliable and fast. I said it before and I'll say it again, BMW engineers need to take some lessons from the Japanese engineers on how to make their cars more reliable. I love BMW's, the way they look, handle, comfort etc but I'm getting tired to taking this car to the dealer. It sounds like I have to visit the dealer on a monthly bases. I was just wondering this morning about the number of times this car visited the dealer since I bought it in March and if I had to pay for all these visits, I could've spent close to $10k on repairs. I think once my Certified Series warranty is over I should sell it and look for another one with more original warrant + CS....

MRV99, can you please post the letter which you received from BMW? I'm taking my car to the dealer tomorrow and if I can avoid paying the $50 deductible that would be nice. Thanks

If you haven't noticed that is how the world works now. Why build something which will last 10-15 years when you can build something that will last 5-10 and force people to purchase a new item. It is companies way of satisfying the stock holders...... Why overbuild something when you can under build an item and charge the same price. When it breaks you need to buy a new one, which translates to more sales and hence happy stock holders.

My Ride: 04 grey 530i..mods so far are pretty basic stuff- 20% tints, 20" Cattivos, Eibach springs, 8000k xenons (pics to come)
my pass restraint light came one two days ago..200 miles over my warranty (50,200 miles). it seems as most people who report this problem seem to have it around the 50-55k mile range. seems like a set up from bmw to get you right after manufacturers warranty. im dreadijng takingmy car to the dealer. and to top it off my check engine light came on today. i truly have a love hate relationship with her.
200 miles should not be a big issue. Managers have the right to approve. If they don't feel that it should be covered just remember the famous phrase. "Situations like this really make me loose faith in BMW"

I have a report for you guys, more bullshit!!! from BMW. According to the dealer the problem is from the crash sensors located in the front bumper which by the way is not covered by BMW Certified Series warranty. The sensors cost is only $73 but I know you guys would love this one; to replace these sensors it is going to cost me $771 + taxes because the dealer has to remove the bumper to change these sensors. I told the dealer to reset the iDrive since I'm getting dinged with the $125 diagnostics and leave it alone for now.
I need your help guys; Do you know of any local BMW machine that can change these senors and program them around the Toronto area? I would like to think that there is somebody else other than the STEALER that can do the job. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Another thought: My original warranty expired April 29th but I am still under the 80km, do you think if I call BMW Canada and complain about the crappy Certified Series warranty, they will do something about it?

Yeah, I just bought mine a couple of weeks ago and I wondered how the people on here managed to live through going to the dealership 5 times already on a car that's just two years old.
Well, this was my family's first BMW. Previously we were a Lexus family and our Lexus (whatever the plural is) never had anything go wrong. I'm talking about a 1994 ES, an 03 GX and an 04 LS. Not whining, but we bought the car assuming it would last a while and that we wouldn't even have to dream of using the 4 years of no maintenance cost. I guess not.

Here's the complete story from the dealers report. FC IN SGM-SIM 9403 9404. Faulty up-front crash sensors (2). Referred to SIB 72 210 04. Sensors develop cracks in housing allowing water ingres and got sensors corroded. Dealer claims that due to my production date of 04/04 they need to program the new sensors not sure if that's true or not! They reset the iDrive, I will wait until the message comes back and then finds a local BMW shop to repair it. There is no way I will pay $600 in labor charge. That's nuts....
