I don't want the weight of my car resting on the transmission so even though I have an Automatic I always pull the ebrake when I park. My question is just in what order I should do this. Here is what I have been doing: coming to a stop I have my foot on the brake. I depress brake to stop car and engage hand brake. I shift into park and then let my foot off the brake. Is this right?
Thank you

What about, coming to a stop:
- Engage foot brake
- Shift to Park
- Engage hand-brake

set the handbrake
shift into Neural
take my foot off the brake - let the car come to full rest on the handbrake
put my foot on the bake
set the car into park
...
This way, I don't hear that horrible "clang" when shifting out of part the next time.

I believe the best way to do it is: Stop, Parking Brake, Shift to Park. This way the pressure is more on the brake not the transmission.
This is what my dad told me, but I dont live in a hilly city (I probably live in one of the flattest in the world) so I dont need to really worry about this.

My parking brake cable apparently broke yesterday
Luckily, it seems to have broken in the 'off' position---the handle is really loose and the 'brake' light comes on, but it isn't working. It had been making very loud 'pop' noises off and on since I bought it back in April, but I suppose I'll just deal with it until I go in for the Service II in a couple of months when it warms up...
