I don't like that I have to wait for the idrive OS to load, then accept the agreement before the PDC will show up. The PDC should work with the graphic all the time below 10mph and alway in reverse.

I still don't understand how/when it decides to work. I pulled into my gargage and it did not go on at all.

BTW, first time poster.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi Dave,

PDC automatically turns on when you go into reverse gear. You have to manually turn it on using the button next to the DSC button if you want to enable it going forward.

As for the bootup period .. it's a bit annoying indeed however the PDC will showup wether or not you accept the disclaimer, it just needs some time to get there. Atleast for me!

So Dave, you're lucky member number 666.

Welcome. I keep it on all the time, Dave. Better safe than sorry.

I find, too, that if I start the garage door, hook the belt, put the key in the ingnition, and then crank, I don't have to wait nearly as often for PDC. Easier on the garage door, too.

Oops. Gotta get that key in the ignition before you can open the door with the button on the rearview mirror.

First of all, welcome to the board, davetexas.

What Lomag said is exactly right, but I want to add, that the PDC will work while idrive boots. You just don't get the screen, but the sound.

Thank you Iceman.

I did notice that I get "some sort of beeping," but it sounds different and seems less accurate than what I get with the display in terms of length of beeping, etc. Is yours otherwise identical only without a visual?

I like the way Mercedes has it. It's "stand alone" and always on. It's also located above the rear window so you can see it when you are backing up. I love BMW, but they should not compromise effectiveness of a safety item just for the sake of efficient integration into idrive. I have two kids under three, so PDC was a must have option for me...I'm just trying to get it right.

Dave

Only difference is the beeps at the front are a high pitched noise. The beeps at the back are lower. But this system is so advanced that it beeps from the speakerside were the object is from. In other words. If there is an object at your left rear you will hear the beeps coming from there (at least with my L7 system this is the case).

That's how mine works too.
