Default panic attack! 2008 535xi just shipped and now has Whirring noise

I just bought a 2008 535xi and had it shipped from IL to NY. They say the noise didn't happen in Chicago but after 30mph it starts a loud whirring noise. I'm at a shop now and they checked the dust shields and rotated the tires. Any other ideas!? Please feel free to call me at 516 902 7866. Thanks! Mike

If the shippers didn't properly secure the vehicle and it allowed for roll front and aft, it can do severe damage to the drive line. I have known several people that this has happened to in different vehicles. I believe most good shippers will leave the car in neutral so drive line lash does not occur.

Lets hope it is something much simpler. Call a good shop right away and have them go over it and find the cause. Sorry to hear.

When you say "they", who do you mean? A dealer/seller? And you took their word for it?

I paid a 3rd party BMW dealer to do a full inspection. I called them and they said the did a thorough test drive and it sounded fine. What could have happened during shipping if they didn't tie it down correctly or left it in park?

I just went to a small shop and they threw it on a lift with the car on. The results were that the front left wheel bearing is going and possibly the rear diff. So much for the $200 inspection I paid BMW .

I would be asking for my money returned for this inspection and if they don't file a credit card claim assuming you used this to pay them. Sounds like they charged you 200.00 to walk around the car!

Sounds like it to me! I hope they give it back. Is the dealer liable at all for this as well?

I'm sure they are not, unless you could prove they did nothing for the money. I doubt they refund anything unless there is a contract of guarantee. This coming from a dealer is pretty bad. And of course, it's possible they did a great job and these issues just happen to come alive on the way, but I doubt that too. Hopefully, they will work with you.
