Forgive me, but several posts talk about the ability to add paddles to an E60 Steptronic. Can this actually be done, and do you lose any functionality in the steering wheel. I ordered the cold weather package, and would not want to lose the heated steering wheel.

I think Hobi is still looking at a heated wheel retrofit. Did you see this thread?:

I imagine that if he could fit an E60 M5 wheel to a car with the steptronic, it should be possilble to fit an E60 SMG (heated) wheel to a step car that had a heated wheel...

You are absolutely correct....
I am still figuring out the wheel heating scenario... It's a bugger...
One thing I have determined, it is definitely possible to put the M5 -/+ paddles on a steering wheel that has SMG already - the mounting is identical.
General:
If someone has push/pull SMG BUT WANTS M5 -/+ style shifting, I have worked out a mod just for this. (Picture in the DIY forum) Email or PM me for more details

Hi LuvE60
To answer your questions: Yes it can be done and NO, you do not lose functionality of the multi function buttons, etc.. All my spare time is being spent on adapting this mod for people with steering wheel heating - like yourself!!!! This is proving difficult to figure out....

NB. my website has more pics of the mod and others.

You lucky bastard, Vince (aka Mr. Paddleshifter) happens to be in your neck of the woods.
If there is one guy who can do it, it would be him...
I paged him for you, hopefully he will show up soon.
cheers,
