Default P3227 error

Has anyone see this error before. If so can it be fixed or is this something not to worry about. I know if the fan dies its bad for the computer but the fan is working so I dont know if this is something to worry about.

It may have been an intermittent failure. Erase the error codes and check back after few days of driving.

I noticed it on Monday so I erased the code to monitor it. I was monitoring it in INPA and started the car. It came up on startup as a (43) active fault and 5 secs later changed to (33) current fault not existing. So I reset it again to see how it would fair during the day. Frequency count went to 154 throughout the day. I would say it happens when the car is started and when the compressor turns on but 154 is a high count for one day. I only drive 26 miles to work.

I am beginning to think that the fan is on its last leg but that does not explain the message "low input". I would think if I change the fan I would still get the low input because it is the car supplying the power, not itself. I took the E-box apart and found nothing wrong. The fan works as it should. I do not know the threshold temp for the ECU so I can not monitor it to see if it is getting cooled like it is suppose to.

Can anyone with INPA hook up to the car and see if this is a message they are getting too. I would hate to think this comes with age and forget about it then my computer burns out. I talked to the dealer and they said all they would do is see if the fan is working and if I wanted to replace it then they would. I can do that myself for alot less $$. Especially if its not going to solve the issue im not going to have them charge me for it.

I was getting P3226 on wife's 2009 X5.

That is ebox fan High Input as opposed to your Low Input. When I researched the ebox fan, I saw that some ebox fans from other car German manufacturers have 3 wires, one of them is providing rpm data. The BMW fan only has two pins. I believe what BMW is doing is monitoring the power the fan is drawing.

I took the ebox fan out and hooked it up to 12V and it seemed to work fine.

I replaced it nonetheless. The error has not returned.
