It seems like when ever i drive a car normal grandma speeds, problems occur..but when i have a heavy foot no check engine lights never come on....

may be you should PM Rizbel to find out what code he got when he decided to replace the thermostat but at 80K, it sounds about right. Look into replacing the water pump and the coolant flush too while you're at it. The pump is only around $ 170 more and check the hoses to see if it needs replacing. It's a DIY job so you can save some of the labor money. Thermostat and pump usually fail together, hand in hand.
