Did you try replacing the Camshaft position sensor?

What engine do you have? How many miles?

This sensor is magnetic, so there is not much to clean there. ;-) Don?t waste time.
First thing to try is to replace it with the new one. Some people have good luck with Bremi sensors, but different forums are also full of negative comments about them (they go bad sometimes after 15-20k).

Keep us updated.

HI I have the same problem, the SES light comes on then the next time i start teh car it may not come on.. it always seems to idle roughly before it comes on too.. i went and pulled the code and got the P0015 - "B" Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1
apparently the probable causes are 1. Camshaft actuator failure or 2. mechanical timing condition (info supplied by advance autoparts code reader) i googled parts for the "Camshaft position sensor" as suggested above and there seems to be a couple of different types with prices from $45-$125.
I have a 530i manufactured 11/2005. Which would mean its a 2006 model correct? When i changed the oil recently, i bought a 2006 oil filter and it didn't fit, although a 2007 filter did...with all this said, i don't want to spend $$$$ on something that isn't the correct part for my vehicle.
Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Go to realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of your VIN. You'll be able to find the right parts for your car with a high degree of confidence. Not that it's totally infallible, but it hasn't let me down yet.

By the way, don't take the pricing literally. It's a reasonable guide, but they don't keep prices 100% up to date.

ok, call me totally stupid, but tried there but cannot find the sensor as there is no "search function" for part names, only numbers.. searched all the groups and sub groups but failed to locate it. as mentioned before google search pulls up more than 1 part number

Because those are two different manufacturers. That's good. You didn't find in the online KDS thing (realoem) because you probably didn't look in the right place. your entire car is there. trust me

Yes it's related to the camshaft sensor. replace it or make sure it's plugged in. Or depending on car it could be a pulse generator.
