Hey guys, Today my 525 overheated due to the return hose coming off the radiator. I stopped the car figured out the problem reattached the hose and filled with water. When I restarted the car it made a lot of noise kind of like popping. After 3 or 4 tries I finally got it to start and drove home slowly, it seemed to drive fine but I am worried about the popping sounds when I started it? Has anyone had this problem before? any suggestions? the car has 103000 miles on it, I have owned it for 4 months and have had nothing but problems maybe time to trade in and get something newer?

Thanks

James

Adding regular water to your coolant might have got you home but I diffently do not recommend you driving the car for a long period of time like this, especially in the Florida summer heat. I would get a coolent flush as soon as possible. Next time add only coolant, water or a 50/50 mix but never regular water. Not sure about the popping sound but maybe another member could advise. Gl!

You have an I6 engine, those damn things are beasts. Hopefully nothing is wrong and the gurgle was from the fluid going through parts that didn't have it. I would first go get it flushed and refilled with proper coolant asap.

Actually he does have an l6 but i don't remember him mention year. The M54 is superior to the N52 in durability but both are prone to failure at overheat. The M54 is all aluminum and N52 is magnesium and aluminum. The downside of magnesium is that although ti's lighter it heats up and melts faster. I have seen a late production M54 cylinder head warp from driving 2 miles when over heating.
