Hi SFBimmer,

Sorry to hear the news
I'm glad to hear that your wife is O.K. Hit and Run?....Bast*ard. I have to commend your wife for tracking the culprit down. I really do hope the police do something about this. At the very least there should be some sort of greater penalty for a hit and run.

As miss525i said earlier, I too feel like I'm *almost* in accidents everyday. The typical situation for me is the stop and go traffic on 237, 880, 680 (I see you're from the Bay Area too) around the Silicon Valley area. I always give myself plenty of room ahead of me when cars come to a stop. In some cases I'll use that extra room in the front to move forward for the idiot behind me that realizes a bit late that cars are stopping and needs to use the space I just gave him to avoid hitting me!

Well, last week (I don't know what compelled me to take the 328i that day instead of my 530i....) traffic stopped on 237. Car behind me was coming in awfully fast. I move forward with the extra space I gave myself. The car behind me stopped just in time. It was the Jaguar behind him that didn't stop in time, slammed into the car behind me, and because the car behind me was awfully close lunged into the back of my 328i...

Minor damage to my 328i's bumper, but enough to have to wait for the Highway Patrol and have the bumper repaired. $700 repair on my $500 deductible.

I hope that they catch the guy. By the look of your photos it looks like just the bumper and exhaust tips were damaged. It doesn't look like any compromise was made to the internal structural integrity of your E60.

Good Luck.

Thank God your wife wasn't hurt It's irritating that people have such little regard for other people's lives or property. I love your wife's spunk! Much props to her also!

During heavy commute traffic last night my wife was driving to see our daughter when a Grey Honda Civic slammed into the rear end of our baby.

Both stopped in the center divider, wife calls me in a panic when the Civic took off. You don't mess with my wife.....so she took off after them going across 5 lanes of traffic all the while she was giving me a second by second update while attempting to get the license plate.

Bottom line....wife is fine, culprit will get his as the plate/car/color was a match for a person in Vallejo, however our baby is damaged.

Oh well....in the scheme of things it could have been much worse.
I am very sorry. And, I am very glad that your wife is fine and that she got the plate number. But, be careful; you don't know who you are dealing with. And, anyone who runs from a simple dent-the-rear accident may not be someone you want to know--or his or her relatives. Below is my latest get-hit incident--due to a nice young guy going way too fast on a freeway while talking on his cell phone. My wife and I had a period where 4 people hit us in a period of 6 months.

I'll say! That happened out in front of my house one night, and I never heard it until a neighbor called me in the morning. I found a huge chunk of yellow tan paint lying next to my VERY crunched 535iS. Police had no record. It was Sunday, and I live on a very quiet street, right on the river, so I figured it was a local, down here parking/petting whatever.

For two+ hours I cruised the hills and streets up from the river and was about to head home when I realized that I hadn't gone down a semi-busy avenue. I was half way down and saw a yellow tan car. As I passed, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a bashed in RF of a yellow tan Dodge. I backed up and there was no mistake. There was my Diamant Schwarz enamel all over his crunched RF. I jotted down the plate and drove straight to the PD station. They sent two cars, escorting me back to the scene. They knocked on the door; and out comes a middle-aged woman who worked at the supermarket where I shop; I feared a mistake. But then, out came the goofy teenage son, who was clearly pulled from bed at 3 in the afternoon. The cops waved me off and said they'd take care of it.

They did; Mom paid and she told me that the kid got his license lifted--by Mom.

So, I congratulate your wife; you live in a much bigger town than I! Looks like it will be fine.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

I applaud your wife's tenacity at chasing down that loser. Glad she's okay but like you said, things could have been a lot worse. I'm a relatively new dad so my son's safety is always in my mind. Imagine if that Civic hit a car with a child in it....things could have been a lot worse. Hope they throw that driver in jail for a night or two. Teach the moron a lesson.
