Thumbs up

Hi everybody,

Does anyone of you know if there is any problem fitting 166 OEM rims on a non M5 E60 ?
Looking to original BMW configurator (even at the dealer), it's not foreseen and on "salesafter.de", they specify "only for M5"...

Does any of you guys know what could be the REAL problem ?

Thanks in advance for your imputs / comments.

No problem at all in fitting these wheels on your car Just use the following tire size 245/35/19 in the front and 275/30/19 in the rear.

Actually on my previous 06 530i I had 245 in front (255 Will rub - trust me) and kept the M5 285 with the rear without any problems. Funny thing, the 166s on my 530i made the car look "lowered" more than my current 08 M5 with 166s.
I'm sure you can find an M5 owner on this forum willing to sell their set. But again you will have to change the M5 255 fronts to 245s.

Cheers,
-Tony

5er Sport, CoolTones : Thanks a lot for your answers

My planning was anyway to set 245/35/19 for the front wheels and 275/30/19 for the rear, which shouldn't make any problem as far as 172s have the same size (8,5X19 & 9,5X19 respectively Fwd and Aft) than the 166s.

Mike, the original M5 has 255/40/19 (Fwd) & 285/35/19 (Aft).

Again, thanks.

Remember that the M5/6 is planned for these wheels, the E60 is not.

So stick to the E60 tire measurements!

They are as said 245/35 19" front and 275/30 19" rear.

But I have read that 285/30 19" in the rear is still OK but that's the max.

Anything wider will give you REAL PROBLEMS!

Yep Ricracing,

As said, I'll set 245 and 275 tires.
Anyway, that's the max size certified for my 525D on its certificate.

But that's gonna be for next spring...

Cheers.

+1, I agree with Ricracing and Etienne . No rubbing in the front and a little bit of lowering using Sport Spring Kit.
Do not use M5 size tires if you have a non-M E60.

Hi Mike,

For front, I recall 245/40. It was the fronts that I was concerned about and there for remember the dimensions. For the rear I simply used whatever was provided for the M5 -- I guess when I get home I can check the rear tire dimensions on my M5 and let you know. Again, it was the standard rear tire dimensions provided for the M5.

Check out "My Ride" on my signature below. You'll see some photos of my former 2006 530i with the 166 rims.

This reminds me. I need to post some pix of my new M5.

Cheers,
-Tony
