Thumbs down

Hey everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has any info on ordering a spare key for the E60? Mine is a 2004, so it has the conventional key system (no start button).

I got the car with only one key, which isn't too good... any ideas?

Just ask the dealer -- they can order and program one for you...

Yeah, I figure I'd need to go through the dealer.

Any ideas what this cost? Can I just buy the valet key (with no remote on it) and have it be cheaper? Or maybe buy just the spare wallet key?

I bought a valet key for $35 a few years back. BTW, your local dealership cannot make the valet key. It has to be made in NJ and mailed to you.

Yes, same with the regular key. You will have to go to the dealer with title and ID to prove you own the car. They will then order the key and it should take a week or two. Have the dealer program upon receipt. I had to replace my spare after Katrina and the dealer charged me $98 as I recall, but I think he gave me a discount. Suggested price could be something around $125 or so. Also be aware that I've heard of some dealers wanting to charge labor for programing the key. Mine did it for free, but dealers will milk you for every penny...

would cost a hell of alot more if you lost your key or locked in the car, to me it kind of a necessity, and a piece of mind...eric

Thanks for the input... my local dealer quoted me $25 for the plastic key and/r $125 for the real key (with the built in remote), which includes "programming". They also informed me that they could order as many plastic and real keys as I want, not just one.

The "real key" is a IT tool that "talks" with the car.
It's also self reloading (with no battery).

Actually the key prevents you car form being stolen.
No insurance company is stupid.
