Update from my dealer today.....

Car arrives tomorrow

They will start work on the PDI asap and I will be collecting it on Monday at 9am!

Only downer is the missus can't get time off work and it's a joint purchase so it's a bit gutting that she can't be there for the collection. I asked the dealer for a slot later that day, but they are booked full with new car deliveries apparently.

Good news is that we'll have the car for our holidays!
Excellent, bet you are really looking forward to it.

Simple !
Well she works hard enough to take the time off in my opinon, but she's too dedicated and has to cover for holidays and prepare for people's meetings etc.... If it were me, I'd be sick though

Indeedy, getting excited now, it's come round quick in the end, mainly because I kept in my mind that we wouldn't have it until the end of the month (original estimated delivery).

You're first E60 aswell judging from your signature - you're going to love it SO much, that is one monster spec you've gone for. I remember our first E60 ... 525d SE with not that many toys, it was unbelievable. Then came the 530d with even fewer toys, but my god that engine, WOW. The 535d M-Sport with lots of toys that is on order... I'm looking forward to it but not in the same way as the very first one.

PS - Whatever happened to "irmclarke", my wife still wants a word with him about me ordering this new car

Indeed, if you're gonna do it, do it in style

It's a big step for us, the Evo is my most recent car, that cost me just under half what Im paying for the 535d although it was 4 years old. We currently have the Evo and an old runabout Escort. I can't use the Evo for business for many reasons, mpg, unsure where it will be left, deafening over long distance etc... and using the Escort is doing me in seriously (uncomfortable, underpowered, not to mention the amount of times things have fallen off it while I've been driving).

I'm really looking forward to this car, we've both worked hard over the last few years and have been stuck in a rutt with a property which was falling down (only 4 years old) unable to sell it and fighting a legal case with the builders. That's all resolved now and the financial pain we went through to move out to a new home and keep up the payments on the old one simultaneously has finally paid off now that the builders have bought the old house back with a good settlement.

As for the power, it's going to be great to have it with the comfort of an exec car, it won't blow my mind though as the Evo kicks out 400 horses currently but they're like chalk and cheese. The biggest thing that grabbed me when test driving was the sense of speed or lack of it. I was almost disappointed with it until I checked the speedo

Really looking forward to having a luxury car for us to share and were lucky enough to be able to keep the runaround Escort (known as the shopping trolley) for basic lugging duties where the 5 series might get battered as well as me keeping the Evo for weekends, although I suspect the usage is going to drop dramatically (I don't use it that much now!) which will inevitably lead to it's sale.

Ref: irmclarke, I bet your wife is looking forward to your new car as much as you are, she's just not showing it

Just spoke to the dealer.

Car is goes into production in week 38, which is week commencing 17th September. They said that they can expect to receive the car week commencing 15th October.

This seems like a long delay between build and delivery to dealership. Do you think they're overestimating to cover themselves? Bear in mind, it's only going to the South East of England, not somewhere in the US.

I don't think it's that far out to be honest, let's face it ordering furniture usually takes 6 weeks from order to delivery! Obviously there's the build time and the transport time, but the dealer will want about 3 days to PDI / prepare the car as well as all the logistical delays of moving the car from Germany.

I don't know how long it actually takes to build the car but I suspect for a larger proportion of the time the car will be sat waiting to be transported.

I don't know when my car was built other than August, so if you assume the 1st August, the car is being delivered to the dealer today (6th Sept) and I'm taking delivery on the 10th, but I'm guessing 3 weeks is possible. I also know however that my order was marked as a prioirity order because of problems with my original order requiring a second car to be manufactured. How much difference that makes I don't know?

Good things come to those who wait though, I ordered mine at the end of May originally!

You've probably seen this in the other threads all talking about run flats... but I've changed my order today, swapped the 18" RunFlats to the 19" Alloys with non run flats. I think my car is also week 38, with delivery week 42? Something like that, I forget. My eta is 20th October.

Russ, our specs seem to be getting more and more similar as time goes on...

Haha, been on conference calls since I picked the car up. Still on a call now!

Will be off in about 30 mins, so I'll go out and take some pictures.

But first impressions are "fantastic". We are soooo chuffed.

Will get some pics up shortly. I'd say you've got time to go off for some lunch though, just in case you are hovering around your pc!
