Just a quick note, I bit the bullet today and committed to a new 550i, pretty much all the options.

Was not sure whether to go with Active Steering, in the end I did order it. You all split about evenly whether it was something to do or not, and my going-in instinct was "no", but I drove a 535i again with it and didn't object to it. I never did find a 550i locally to try.

Anyway, just wanted to thank you all for helping me figure this out. Now the waiting...

Congratulations! FWIW I think you made the right call on the active steering, and after you've lived with it for a while I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

"Ordered 500i".... did you catch that?! I got them to put the turboV8 in it!
Sheesh! They bought me books, sent me to school, and I still can't type. We'll see if I can drive one of these.

At least it's a V8 ..............not a 555i (insider joke), ie 525 conversion !!

Whew! For a minute there, I thought Cal had bought the Fred Flinstone E60, with the 0.0 liter engine and was powered by his feet!

I was one who spoke against the AS, but I don't think you'll find it any different than what you expereinced on the 535. And frankly once you are driving your car, it will all be good. Conratulations!
