I noticed that the Vehicle History Report for my car lists "Option 0697 - DVD Area coding, North America".
I cannot find reference to this option anywhere. I have the basic US radio with single in-dash CD player only. No Nav. Why do I need DVD coding and what component is being coded?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

It's probably the DVD Region Code, which may be mandatory to be defined from a regulatory standpoint for some products that could or might ship with a DVD drive/player, even if they don't actually have one.
